Magarci su prvi put pripitomljeni oko 3000 p.n.e. otprilike u isto vrijeme kao konji i proširili su se širom svijeta. Također, magarci se mogu ukrštavati sa konjima, ali se tada rađaju sterilne jedinke. U slučaju parenja pastuha i magarice dobija se mazga, a kada se pare magarac i kobila, dobija se mula. Za razliku od konja, magareća kopita su prilagođena kamenoj, odnosno neravnoj površini jer im daju siguran oslonac ali nisu pogodni za brzo trčanje. Magarci vode porijeklo iz suhig područja. Znaju biti sive, smeđe, crne i crvenkaste boje a za razliku od konja imaju duge uši. Život u Dalmaciji je bio nezamisliv bez magarca kojeg su otočani (boduli) nazvali ”tovar”. Na uprćenim tovarima otočanke i otočani su nosili sav teret: Vodu, kamen, masline, grožđe, zemlju, drva i druge potrepštine kako bi olakšali život . Danas, kada se teret prenosi automobilima i raznim strojevima magarac (tovar) je postao rijetka vrsta a slobodno možemo reći i turistička atrakcija. Obzirom, da je sastavni dio iz našeg života, povjesti i tradicije ”tovara” smo na temelju istinite priče iz mjesta Čara na otoku Korčuli uvrstili putem pjesme i u naš repertoar Marko Polo Festa. Pjesmu je otpjevao jedan od najboljih hrvatskih tenora Vinko Coce i prijatelji Čare a autor teksta i glazbe je Ivan Šegedin.

All the loads of islands and islands were carried by the islanders: Water, stone, olive, grapes, earth, wood and other necessities to make life easier. Today, when cargo is conveyed to cars and various machines, the donkey has become a rare species and we can freely say the tourist attraction. Given that part of our lives, history and traditions of “cargo” we have based on the story of Cara on the island of Korcula through the song and in our repertoire Marco Polo Festa. The song was sung by one of the best Croatian tenors Vinko Coce and friends of Čare, and the author of the text and music is Ivan Šegedin.
